MANCHESTER, England, April 13. AFTER snatching the 50 fly world record in surprising fashion earlier in the meet, Australia's Felicity Galvez was unsurprising with her 100 fly global record at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

Galvez blistered the field in the event with a new world record time of 55.89, clearing Libby Lenton's time of 55.95 set back in 2006.

Here are the comparative splits:
Galvez: 26.08, 55.89
Lenton: 26.14, 55.95

"After the 50m, I had a feeling that I could be pretty much there," Galvez told meet organizers. "I mean to get the 50m world record you've got to be close to the 100m record. I think I put a bit too much pressure on myself in the 200m and didn't enjoy it as much. I've definitely realized that in enjoying my 50m and my 100m I swim my best so I'll take that to the next meet and add that to my 200m and I can only hope for better."

The win is the third for the Australians in the event. Lenton won in 2006, while Susan O'Neill captured the initial title in 1993. Australia is now tied with the U.S. for the most wins as Jenny Thompson won in 1997, 1999 and 2000.

Rachel Komisarz of the U.S. broke Natalie Coughlin's American record of 56.34 with a second-place time of 56.32, while Great Britain's Jemma Lowe placed third in 56.84.
