MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, January 19. THE Minnesota men proved to be too much for Arizona State as the Golden Gophers earned a 173-110 conquest in the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week. Minnesota won 11 titles against ASU's five.
Minnesota swept both relays as David Plummer, Colin Lee-To, Anthony Portela and Jason Timmer clocked a B-cut 1:28.63 to win the 200 medley. Michael Woodson, Stephen Miller, Tyler Schmidt and Jon Roberts finished with a win in the 200 free (1:21.77).
Lee-To had a strong day as he also won the 50 free (20.15) and 100 breast (54.27) with B-cut times. Curt Carlson picked up a pair of wins with top times in the 100 free (44.74) and 200 free (1:38.09), while Russ Payne swept the backstroke events with wins in the 100 (49.35) and 200 (1:47.33).
In other action, Alex Wold won the 200 fly (1:48.86), while Jason Timmer took home the 200 breast (2:10.98). Timmer also took second in the 100 breast with a B-cut time of 54.90.
On the diving boards, Drew Brown won the 3m with a zone score of 343.80, while teammate Cole Young also recorded a zone tally with a 328.88.
It was the CJ Nuess show for the Sun Devils as he claimed three crowns. He clocked a B-cut 3:53.66 to win the 400 IM, while also snaring titles in the 500 free (4:30.97) and 1000 free (9:15.68).
Sean Boyle won the 100 fly in 49.39, while Billy Sweeney posted a zone score of 309.68 to win the 1m.
