Andy Bradley Named Virginia Diving Coach -- October 1, 2007

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia, October 1. VIRGINIA swimming coach Mark Bernardino announced Monday that Andy Bradley has been named diving coach at UVa. Bradley joins the Cavalier program after serving as an assistant diving coach at his alma mater, South Carolina.

"I am very excited to help continue the tradition Mark has established at UVa," Bradley said. "I look forward to setting our goals high and winning ACC championships and qualifying student-athletes for the NCAA Championships."

Bradley assisted the diving team at South Carolina under Olympic coach Todd Sherritt for two years before coming to Virginia. He also assisted with the South Carolina divers, helping with the conditioning and coaching of the club team's U18 divers.

"The University of Virginia swimming and diving program is very excited to welcome Andy Bradley as our first full-time diving coach," Bernardino said. "Andy was an incredible diver and his intimate knowledge of the sport will serve him well as he goes about the business of creating a diving program equal to that of any in the nation.

"Andy's positive attitude and incredible work ethic are contagious and great young divers are going to be excited to learn at the hand of this outstanding coach. "He was described by one of USA's premier diving coaches as the best young diving coach in the country. We are pleased to have someone of Andy's caliber and energy."

A Fairfax, Va., native, Bradley served as the head coach of the Commonwealth Dive Club for four summers. He also assisted for George Mason's Patriot Dive Club for three seasons.

A six-time NCAA All-American, Bradley competed one year at Brigham Young before transferring to South Carolina for his sophomore campaign in 2002-03. He was twice the NCAA runner-up in the one-meter diving event.

On the international level, Bradley is a five-time United States national team member. He was a finalist at the 2003 World University Games in Daegu, South Korea. Bradley also is a two-time U.S. national champion and placed sixth at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials in the three-meter event.

Bradley was a three-time high school All-American and Virginia state champion at Robinson High School.

Bradley received his bachelor's degree in mass communications from South Carolina in December 2006.
