Brazilian Championships: Two South American Records Tumble During Second Day -- September 6, 2007

FLORIANOPOLIS, Brazil, September 6. DURING the second day of competition at the Brazilian Championships, also known as the Jose Finkel Trophy meet, two South American records fell as well as a slew of meet standards.

Individually, Guilherme Guido shot down his old South American standard of 25.64 in the men's 50 backstroke with a time of 25.57 to win gold today. Meanwhile, the team of Nicholas Santos, Cesar Cielo, Fernando Silver and Jader Souza broke the men's 200 meter freestyle relay South American standard with a time of 1:28.93.

The meet record book also took some hits as Lucas Salatta snared the men's 200 meter freestyle standard with a time of 1:50.48, while Fabiola Molina took down the women's 50 back with a time of 29.26. Additionally, Thiago Pereira dominated the men's 400 IM with a time of 4:18.97, winning by more than 10 seconds.

Other title winners included Tatiana Barbosa in the women's 200 free (2:01.81), Gabrielle Silva in the women's 100 fly (1:01.12), Fernando Silva in the men's 100 fly (53.44), Joanna Maranhao in the women's 400 IM (4:48.76) and the team of Flavia Delaroli, Monique Ferreira, Carolina Moncorvo and Barbosa in the women's 200 free relay with a time of 1:44.08.
