Georgetown Adds Bob Schneider to the Swimming and Diving Coaching Staff -- August 23, 2007
WASHINGTON, D.C., August 23. GEORGETOWN University Head Swimming and Diving Coach Steven Cartwright announced the addition of Bob Schneider as the diving coach to the program. Schneider brings a wealth of coaching experience to the program, including stints at Yale, Emory, Kenyon College and the Diving Hall of Fame in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. His specific coaching experience includes dry-land and trampoline conditioning as well as technical coaching on springboard and platform.
"Bob brings a plethora of knowledge at the national and Olympic level to Georgetown, coupled with a championship resume and endorsements from International Hall of Fame coaches," Cartwright said. "His passion and energy for both diving and his student-athletes will play a major part in our success as a program in the coming seasons. We are both honored and excited to have Bob aboard as we move ahead in the BIG EAST Conference."
Schneider arrives on the Hilltop after assisting the Indian River Community College as well as various high school teams and masters divers at the Ft. Lauderdale Diving Hall of Fame pool since 2002. While in Ft. Lauderdale, he maintained a publishing/advertising/marketing consulting service, while also serving as an independent contractor for a pharmaceutical promotions company.
From 2000-02, Schneider coached Yale's top female diver who went on to win the Eastern Championship in both the one and three-meter events. He briefly coached incoming Emory divers and then coached the men and women at the University of Vermont. Schneider served as the assistant at Kenyon College, an accomplished Division III program, and Ohio University from 1994-98.
Schneider adds experience out of the water as well as he developed and published bi-monthly issues of RIP Magazine for US Diving from 1989-92. He also coached at the University of North Dakota-Grand Forks and coached and competed at the masters level, picking up three national medals.
From 1966-87, Schneider helped several different programs including Miami of Ohio, Princeton, the Pace Academy in Atlanta, Ga. and coached several state champions in the Chicago area. In 1972, he served as a judge at the Olympic trials.
Schneider was hired in 1963 as the diving and assistant coach of swimming at Princeton University. From 1963-66, Princeton divers won two Eastern titles and placed in the top-10 at the NCAA Division I championships. In addition, the championship AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) age-group program he helped develop, produced Leslie Bush, a 1964 Olympic gold medalist on platform. He officiated at the 1964 Olympic trials.
A 1961 graduate of Ohio University where he earned his bachelor of science in journalism, Schneider was a three-year letterwinner on the diving team. During his summers, he coached many age-group and high school divers including a 1962 Pennsylvania high school state champion.
