USA Junior Nationals: Day Three Prelims Notes & Results

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, August 8. SWIMMERS took on the 200 free and 400 IM during the third day of preliminary competition at the Speedo Junior National Championships held at the IU Natatorium at IUPUI.

Women's 200 freestyle
Finals of the women's 200 free should be a close one as the top six qualifiers all sit within a second of each other.

West Florida Lightning Aquatics' Claire Thompson led all preliminary swims with a time of 2:03.09, while Bluefish' Elizabeth Beisel finished second in 2:03.55.

Minot Swim Club's Dagny Knutson (2:03.58), Gator Swim Club's Jamie Bohunicky (2:03.61), Brophy East's Ashley Evans (2:03.71) and Trojan Swim's Mattea Perrotta (2:03.76) all posted 2:03 times to make up the top six performances.

Men's 200 freestyle
Mecklenburg Aquatics' Thomas Santoli paced qualifying with a time of 1:52.45 in the men's 200 free. Meanwhile, Team Foxjet's Curt Carlson took second in 1:53.41, while FAST's Patrick White placed third in 1:54.10. SoNoCo's Eric Ress picked up fourth in 1:54.35.

Women's 400 IM
Bluefish's Elizabeth Beisel easily topped preliminary action with a time of 4:51.52, just off the meet-record effort of 4:51.32 set by Jessica Schmitt in Irvine in 2005.

Aquazot's Lyndsay De Paul (4:54.70), Parkland Aquatics' Breanna Folk (4:56.47) and The Claremont Club's Noelle Tarazona (4:57.37) will give chase to Beisel as the rest of the top four.

Men's 400 IM
Dallas Mustang Matt Thompson will be gunning for Tyler Clary's meet-record time of 4:26.42 this evening after claiming lane four with a 4:29.00 in prelims. Nova of Virginia's Ian Vogt finished second in 4:30.72, while Curl-Burke's Andy Brake took third in 4:31.30 to bracket Thompson in finals.
