Aggies Sign Sarah Froehlich

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, May 23. THE Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team announced the signing of Sarah Froehlich (Hamden, Conn.) on Tuesday.

Froehlich, who graduates from Hamden High School this month, has swum for the Cheshire YMCA Seadogs coached by Sean Farrell this past year.

The future Aggie is a versatile swimmer in many of the longer events. She specializes in distance freestyle races such as the 500 (4:58.41), 1000 (10:02.2), and 1650 (17:07.98) as well as the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.6) and the 400 IM (4:28.46).

"The thing that intrigues me the most about Sarah is that up until the last month or so she has never done doubles (two workouts a day) during the school year," head coach Steve Bultman said. "She has raced to some really good times already. I think she has a lot of room for improvement and I think her best swimming is ahead of her."

Froehlich is a U.S. Open and USA Swimming Junior & Senior national qualifier in the 1000-yard freestyle. She was an all-state selection and state finalist in both her junior and senior seasons as well.

"I chose Texas A&M because when I went there on my recruiting trip I clicked with the all the girls on the team, and both coaches, really well," Froehlich said. "From the moment I got there I felt like I was already a part of the team. I also love all of the academic and athletic support offered."

Froehlich is an honor roll student and was the captain of her high school team this past year. She spends some of her free time volunteering at an area hospital as well.

Special thanks to Texas A&M for contributing this report.
