Indiana Inks Chace Caruso

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana, May 22. INDIANA University announced that it has signed Chace Caruso for the 2007-08 season.

Caruso (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) was an All-American in four events in 2006, taking distinction in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. He also took All-America honors in 2005 in the 50 free and 100 free.

"The coaching staff at IU truly made me feel a sense of value to the future of the team," Caruso said. "I feel that the swim program, coaching staff and the academics offered at IU are the perfect matches for me in what I want in a college experience. The history and the tradition at IU are unmatched both in and out of the pool. IU is where I want to pursue my swimming career."

Caruso helped Conestoga Valley to back-to-back Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association runner-up finishes in 2006 and 2007. He won consecutive state titles in the 50 free, taking the crown in both 2006 and 2007, and helped Conestoga Valley's 400 free relay unit to a state title in 2007.

"Chace is one of the best 50 freestylers in the country," Looze said. "I think he'll also help us in the 100 freestyle and most definitely in the 100-yard butterfly. He has a great deal of room for improvement, and one of the intangible things that Chace brings to the table is that he's a great leader. He's very inspirational to his teammates, and he'll be wonderful for team chemistry."

Special thanks to Indiana for contributing this report.
