Northern Colorado Welcomes Five Signees

GREELEY, Colorado, May 16. THE University of Northern Colorado inked a quintent of swimmers as announced by head coach Nancy Hinrichs. Barrett Aggers, Kelly Cook, Victoria Gutt, Helen Husbands and Kylie Sellers will join the program starting the 2007-08 season.

Aggers is a local product, coming to the Bears from Loveland High School, where she was a four-time letter winner for the Indians.

As the team captain, Aggers led LHS to a conference championship this past season, garnering several individual awards in the process. She was given the "Sue Smith Award" and named to the Loveland Reporter Herald's All-Area team, an honor she also earned in her junior season. Aggers was a four-time state qualifier in both the breaststroke and IM.

Cook is continuing a family tradition by diving for the Bears. Kelly will be the third member of her family to represent the program – following the lead of her mother Caty, and her sister Sarah, who currently dives for the Bears.

A two-time Second-Team All-conference selection at Bear Creek High School, Cook holds personal bests of 258 points in a 6-dive competition, and 446 points in an 11-dive competition, and owns the school's diving record.

She also excels in gymnastics, finishing First-Team All-Conference in the vault. In her prep career, she lettered all four years in diving, three times in gymnastics and twice in track.

A two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Gutt was a standout swimmer for Catalina Foothills High School in Tucson, Ariz., where her team is a seven-time defending state champion at the 4A level.

Gutt lettered twice in high school, where she swam the breaststroke, butterfly and IM. She also excelled in the classroom, as a member of the National Honor Society for her junior and senior years.

Husbands lettered in each of her four years at Conroe High School in Texas, and also captained the Tigers for her final two seasons.

Husbands was a member of the school's record-setting 200 medley and 400 freestyle medley teams last year, also earning All-Region and All-District awards in each of her four years. She also distinguished herself academically as a finalist for the Rotary Scholar Athlete, as well as earned recognition as an academic letterman and a member of the National Honor Society.

Sellers will come to the program from Ralston Valley High School in Arvada, where she was the team captain her senior season. A three-time All-Conference selection, and All-State selection her senior season for the Mustangs, Sellers has also won the Region VI championship on the 3-meter board.

She set school records for a 6-dive event (270 pts.) and an 11-dive event (448.25), and is a two-time Jeffco Invite Champion, as well as the 2005 and 2006 Denver Public Schools Invite diving champion.

Sellers also claimed titles on the 1 and 3-meter boards in the 2004 Colorado Cup, and in the 4A League Diving Meet in 2006 and 2007. Also in her senior season she won the 4A State Diving Championships, an event she took second in the year before.

Special thanks to Northern Colorado for contributing this report.
