Thiago Pereira, Therese Alshammar Set Meet Records at Maria Lenk Championships -- May 4, 2007

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, May 4. THIAGO Pereira and Therese Alshammar both clocked meet records at the Maria Lenk Championships held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from May 1-6.

Pereira recorded a 1:59.39 in the 200 backstroke to take down the 2:00.40 previously set by Rogerio Romero on Dec. 15, 2000. Romero holds the South American and Brazilian record at 1:59.23, which should be Pereira next target.

Meanwhile, Alshammar touched in 26.21 in the 50 butterfly to drop her own meet standard of 26.30 set on May 6, 2005.

For the women, Monique Ferreira (4:14.25 – 400 free) and Georgina Bardach (2:17.77 – 200 back) also won, while Felipe Araujo (3:53.86 – 400 free) and Nicholas dos Santos (24.26 – 50 fly) each picked up a title for the men.
