Tatiana Sakemi Sets Brazilian Mark In First Night of Maria Lenk Championships -- May 2, 2007

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, May 2. IN the first night of competition at the Maria Lenk Championships held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from May 1-6, Tatiana Sakemi set the Brazilian national record in the 200-meter breaststroke during preliminary competition.

She touched in 2:33.17 to eclipse the previous standard of 2:33.64 set by Patricia Comini in 2000.

Meanwhile, Thiago Pereira clocked the best men's time in the event in 2:15.97, while Rebeca Gusmao posted the fastest 50 freestyle time of 25.86. Nicholas dos Santos topped the men's 50 free in 22.89.

Notably, Ryan Lochte and Cesar Cielo – two of the athletes with the most pre-event hype wound up not showing up due to other obligations.
