Leisel Jones Shifts Training to Melbourne -- April 24, 2007

MELBOURNE, Australia, April 24. IT'S a risky move, but Leisel Jones has opted to shift her training base to Melbourne and has parted ways with longtime coach Stephan Widmer. Various reports out of Australia confirmed the move. At the heart of the move was, well, Jones' heart, as her boyfriend, Aussie Rules football star Marty Pask, makes his home in Melbourne. Jones joins countryman Grant Hackett in the move-to-Melbourne club.

By leaving Widmer, Jones has cut loose from a coach that led the breaststroke sensation to never-before-seen heights. Jones is the world-record holder in the 100 and 200 breast events and won titles in both disciplines at the recent World Championships. Jones will now train with Carey Aquatics under Rohan Taylor, who guides the careers of Danni Miatke and Shayne Reese. Jones indicated that she's looking for a renewed surge and that she and Widmer had no relationship issues.
