Jedrzejczak Sentenced to Probation for Accident that Killed Brother -- March 22, 2007

WARSAW, Poland, March 22. OTYLIA Jedrzejczak, preparing for the World Championships in Melbourne, has been sentenced to nine months probation in connection with the October 2005 car crash that claimed the life of her brother. The Olympic champion in the 200 butterfly, the Polish swimmer was behind the wheel when the accident occurred.

Jedrzejczak was traveling at a high rate of speed and will be required to perform 30 hours of community service per month, according to a report by Reuters. When the swimming portion of the World Champs starts on Sunday, Jedrezejczak will try to defend her title in the 200 fly. She's expected to duel with Aussie Jessicah Schipper, the reigning world-record holder.
