USC’s Soni Defends 200 Breast Title

By Jason Marsteller

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, March 10. SOUTHERN California's Rebecca Soni defended her 200 breast NCAA title with a top time of 2:08.73 that set the pool record. After going out under NCAA record pace through the initial 150 yards, she wound up finishing a second over the 2:07.36 set by Tara Kirk in 2002.

The win gave USC its fifth 200 breaststroke title in school history.

Wisconsin's Yi Ting Siow placed second in 2:10.42, while Stanford's Caroline Bruce finished third in 2:11.06.

Auburn held onto the lead with 463 points, while Arizona stood second with 426 points. California (290.5) and Stanford (290) continued to battle for third, while Georgia remained in fifth with 258 points.
