Cal’s Vollmer Blazes to 100 Fly Title

By Jason Marsteller

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, March 9. A new venue sometimes is just what the doctor order after struggling for a year, and that is just what California's Dana Vollmer did this year with a transfer to Berkeley. Vollmer touched in 50.69, the fourth-fastest time in the event, to claim the 100 fly NCAA title.

Stanford's Elaine Breeden placed second in 51.72, while Arizona State's Caitlin Andrew picked up third in 52.02.

At the completion of the event, Arizona jumped back into the lead with 260.5 points, in front of Auburn's second-place tally of 238. Stanford held third with 186.5 points, while California (163) and Georgia (119) comprised the rest of the top five.

Click here to hear Vollmer's thoughts on the win and returning the 100 fly title to California after Natalie Coughlin owned the event for four consecutive years.
