Host Bangor Takes Maine Men’s “A” High School Crown

BANGOR, Maine, March 8. BANGOR High School controlled the tempo of the meet as it took the Maine Men's A Division High School state title. Westbrook used its depth to chalk up a second-place finish while Scarborough settled for third place.

Bangor's 200 medley relay foursome of Brandon Frenette, Taylor Wicks, Tyler Brookings and Tommy Wong mounted a back-half comeback against Morse High School on their way to a 1:44.21 time and a gold medal. The quartet of Wong, Brookings, Frenette and freshman Joey Quinn continued Bangor's relay run by snagging the 200 freestyle relay title with a time of 1:32.04.

Nick Daly from Cape Elizabeth emerged from the woodwork in finals. In his two first-place individual events, the 200 freestyle (1:47.46) and the 100 freestyle (49.26), he sat at least one place back from the top qualifier going into the final heat.

Jon Russell from Scarborough shared double-winner honors with Daly, taking victories in both the 200 IM (2:05.08) and the 100 breaststroke (1:04.44).

Keaton Scarponi from Morse High School demolished the diving competition with a final score of 452.70. Joe McGreehan of South Portland and Jordan Cadorette of Biddleford took second and third with scores of 326.25 and 308.65, respectively.
