Torres Blazes to a Pair of Masters Records -- February 26, 2007

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, February 26. DARA Torres, building up toward a run for a fifth Olympic berth, notched a pair of record-breaking swims over the weekend at the Fort Lauderdale Masters Challenge. The 39-year-old, who competed at the 1984, 1988, 1992 and 2000 Olympics won the 50 and 100 freestyles in the short-course meet.

Competing in the 35-39 age classification, Torres prevailed in the 50 free in 22.34. That mark broke the previous age-group record of 23.53, set by Sandy Neilson-Bell in 1996. In the 100 free, Torres touched the wall in 49.72 to easily better Neilson-Bell's 1995 record of 51.54.
