UNLV Men, BYU Women Win Mountain West Titles

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma, February 24. THE UNLV men edged out BYU by 15 points to take home its third consecutive Mountain West Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championship with 699.5 team points, while the Cougar women won their sixth women's team title in eight years with 747 points Saturday night at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatics Center.

The BYU men had 684.5 points, followed by Air Force with 633. Wyoming (520), Utah (459.5) and TCU 431.5) rounded out the standings.

Following BYU with 618 points was last year's champion, Utah. UNLV was next at 527, followed by Wyoming (480), Colorado State (406), TCU (394), New Mexico (260) Air Force (173) and San Diego State (145).

Awards were announced at the conclusion of the meet, as Utah repeated two awards. Ute seniors Amber Walter and Kelsey Patterson were named women's Swimmer and Diver of the Year, respectively. BYU's Stan Crump was voted as the women's Swimming Coach of the Year, while the Cougars' Keith Russell was named both the women's and men's Diving Coach of the Year.

Seniors Chris Knaute (Air Force) and Brett Allen (BYU) shared men's Swimmer of the Year honors, while BYU freshman Brandon Watson was named the men's Diver of the Year. Rob Clayton of Air Force was voted as the men's Swimming Coach of the Year.

Knaute and BYU's Brittany Davis-Burk were this year's Senior Award winners. The All-MWC team was also announced, led by UNLV on the men's side with 12 individual honorees and BYU's 14 women's individual awards.
