Williams College Leads After Day Two of NESCAC Championships

WILLIAMSTOWN, Massachusetts, February 17. AFTER day two of the 2007 NESCAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, Williams College sits in first place overall. The Ephs won one title and extended its lead to 119 ½ points over Amherst College. The Lord Jeffs, however, took home four titles for the second consecutive day and lead all schools with eight overall.

The lone Eph win was thanks to sophomore Amanda Nicholson. Her time of 4:27.23 in the 400 yard IM not only won her the NESCAC title but also set the championship meet record for that event.

Amherst began the day just as it ended the previous day, by taking home a relay title. Seniors Margaret Ramsey and Piper Pettersen, junior Brittany Sasser, and sophomore Meaghan Stern swam to a time of 1:47.89 in the 200 yard medley relay to grab the title. Stern and Sasser, building on the relay win and success on Day 1, combined to help collect the other three Lord Jeff titles. In the 200 yard freestyle, Stern bested the field with a time of 1:53.32, while Sasser swam to a NESCAC championship meet record time of 55.61 in the 100 yard backstroke.

The combo teamed up with Ramsey and sophomore Alex Lee to finish off Day 2 with another relay win in 800 yard freestyle relay. Their time of 7:37.11 set a championship meet record and won the Lord Jeffs their eighth title in two days.

Middlebury, who dropped to third place overall after Day 2, claimed two titles of their own on the day. In the 1000 yard freestyle, junior Sara Cowie posted a time of 10:21.95 to claim the title. In the 100 yard butterfly, junior Marika Ross claimed her third title of the meet with a time of 56.47.

Colby claimed the only other title on the day. Junior Kelly Norsworthy swam the top time of 1:05.21 in the 100 yard breaststroke to claim her second title of the meet.
