One More Time: Beck Lowers National High School Mark in 200 I.M. -- February 17, 2007

AUSTIN, Texas, February 17. MARY Beck has done it again. One night after becoming the first high schooler to crack the 1:58 barrier in the 200-yard individual medley, the sophomore from Westlake High clocked 1:57.41 Saturday at the Texas 5A State Championships. Beck lowered her effort of 1:57.74 from the preliminaries on Friday night.

Beck, who competed last month at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships, split 25.98 for the fly leg, hit the midpoint of the race in 54.24 and made the turn for home in 1:28.87. Beck first set the national high school record at regionals with a time of 1:58.28, but had that time bettered last week by Michelle McKeehan (1:58.06) at the Indiana State Champs.
