Beck Reclaims National High School Record in 200 I.M.

AUSTIN, Texas, February 17. MARY Beck (Austin Westlake) regained her national high school record in the 200-yard individual medley Friday night. Racing in the preliminaries of the Texas 5A State Championships, Beck produced a time of 1:57.74. That mark broke the 1:58.06 effort turned in by Michelle McKeehan at last week's Indiana State Champs.

Beck had set the record of 1:58.28 during regional competition, but had the standard bettered by McKeehan last weekend. Beck split 26.13 for the butterfly leg, hit the 100 mark in 54.69 and made the turn for the final 50 yards in 1:29.64. Considering it was a prelim swim, it wouldn't be surprising to see Beck go faster during Saturday's championship finals.
