Kenyon Leads Men’s and Women’s Meet After Day Two of NCAC Championships

CANTON, Ohio, February 9. THE Kenyon women opened the second evening of competition at the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships by winning the night's first event – the 200 medley relay – in a meet record time of 1:45.80. The Ladies then proceeded to turn in 10 additional top-five finishes, including three wins, on their way to 1,124 points. The Kenyon men retained their hold on first place as well. The Lords won five of seven events to compile 1,122 points and lengthen their lead over second-place Denison (1,009).

The Kenyon women jumped to a 85-point advantage over second-place Denison (1,039). The Big Red claimed three event titles and 10 additional top-five finishes. Rounding out the women's leaders, Wittenberg finished the day third with 552.5 points, followed by Allegheny (482) in fourth and Wooster (481.5) in fifth. On the men's side of the pool, the Wabash men finished third. They compiled 627 points. Wooster (539) followed in fourth; Wittenberg (474) was fifth.

Four individuals guaranteed themselves a trip to the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships in Houston with stellar performances in the finals session. Kenyon freshman Tina Ertel (Halle Germany/Sportgymnasium Halle), Denison senior MC Dain (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Holy Cross) and Big Red freshman Liv Zaleski (Corry, PA/Corry Area) all qualified in the 100 butterfly. Ertel established a new NCAC record with her winning time of 56.33. Dain (57.09) was second, followed by Zaleski (57.22). Denison junior Stephen Julka (Madison, WI/James Madison Memorial) compiled 443.90 points to win the men's three-meter competition and earn a trip to the national championships.
