Big-Name Aussies in Action on Gold Coast

GOLD COAST, Australia, January 29. THE times were far from stellar, but some of the top names in Australia were in action over the weekend at the Miami Super Challenge. Grant Hackett, seeking a fifth consecutive world title in the 1,500 free at March's World Championships, won the 100 (52.36), 200 (1:51.50) and 400 freestyles (3:53.90) in the tuneup meet.

Meanwhile, Leisel Jones prevailed in the 100 and 200 breaststroke races over Jade Edmistone. Jones won the 100 in 1:10.43, ahead of the 1:10.78 by Edmistone. She took the 200 breast in 2:32.26, with Edmistone going 2:37.23. Libby Lenton came out on top in the 50 free in 26.36, won the 200 free in 2:06.24 and took the 100 fly in 1:02.34. Jo Fargus bettered the field in the 200 backstroke in 2:16.43.
