UC-Irvine Downs UC-San Diego Teams

IRVINE, California, January 28. THE UC Irvine men's and women's swimming & diving teams each defeated UC San Diego Saturday afternoon at Anteater Aquatics Complex. The men won 175.5-115.5 and the women's team won 179-121.

The Anteater men had the top result in 12 of the 16 events while the UCI women won 11 events. Junior Chelsea Nagata and freshman Lindsay DePaul both won each of their three events. Nagata won the 100 back (59.05), 50 free (23.70) and the 100 fly (55.10) with her times in the 50 free and the 100 fly being meet records. DePaul won the 200 fly (2:02.96), 500 free (4:56.93) and the 200 IM (2:05.17) with all three setting new meet records.

On the men's side, seniors Mike Cohee, Eric Reilly and Dan Simonsen along with junior Randall Tom each won two events during the meet for the Anteaters. Eric Reilly set meet records in the 50 free (20.68) and the 100 free (45.82). Randall Tom set meet records in the 200 fly (1:48.50) and the 100 fly (47.86).

The Anteaters next will travel to Northridge Friday to face Big West rival Cal State Northridge at 1:00 p.m. at Matador Pool.
