Bakersfield Swimming Supporter Dick Graves Passes Away

BAKERSFIELD, California, January 26. IN some unfortunate news, Dr. Dick Graves, a staunch support of the swimming community in Bakersfield, Calif., passed away on Monday morning at the age of 83 after battling with Alzheimer's disease.

Graves served as a starter, referee and judge at every level of competition in the Bakersfield area and supported swimming at the Bakersfield Swim Club along with high school and college levels.

Graves is survived by his wife, Jan, and three children, Rick, Julie and David. The family is not having funeral services, but there will be a memorial at Cal State Bakersfield in February. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a scholarship set up in his honor. To make a donation, contact Pat Skehan at 654-2071.
