Baron in Danger of Missing World Champs -- January 24, 2007

PARIS, France, January 24. ESTHER Baron, one of the world's elite backstrokers, might be sidelined for the World Championships in March due to a groin injury. According to Eurosport, the European champ in the 200 back must back off during training to guarantee that she does no further damage to her injury.

Baron recently posted a swim of 2:17.18 in her prime event, a mark that obviously wouldn't compete at the international level. Said her coach Phillipe Lucas: "You can't judge her on that because she didn't swim it. She's afraid, she held back, she has no wish to suffer more (pain). Esther can't arrive at the World Championships in this state. That's for sure."
