Blaum, Nunez Morera Claim First Leg of 2007 FINA Open Water Grand Prix in Argentina

PARANA, Argentina, January 22. YESTERDAY, Argentina's Damian Blauma and Spain's Esther Nunez Morera claimed the first stop of the 2007 FINA Open Water Grand Prix (previously known as the Marathon World Cup).

In the longest race of the series (88K), Blaum won the race at home with a time of 8.50.25, while Nunez Morera crossed the line first for the women in 9.26.12.

In the men's meet, Germany's Alexander Studzinski placed second in 8.51.14, while last year's series winner Petar Stoychev of Bulgaria took third in 9.09.33. For the women, Argentina's Celeste Punet finished second in 9.29.24, while American Erica Rose took third in 9.30.32.

The next stop in the nine-leg series will be in Santa Fe, Argentina on Feb. 4, with swimmers completing a 57K course.
