IUPUI Women Takes Six Duals Over Weekend

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, January 21. THE IUPUI women's swimming and diving team took two of six duals versus St. Louis University, South Dakota State and Butler University Friday and Saturday.

Scott took first place in both events Friday night, setting a record off the 1-meter board with a score of 246.08. The sophomore added to her total off the 3-meter board, setting a school record for the second straight week. Scott's score of 253.35 broke her own record, set with a score of 241.20 last weekend at the Eastern Michigan dual meet.

On Saturday, Scott again finished first off of the 1-meter board posting a score of 228.30. She also placed third in 3-meter diving, scoring a 243.00.

The morning session saw the women's team record 12 podium finishes on Saturday, The Jags set a season best in the morning's final event, the 400 freestyle relay. Freshman Sara Smith (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln), junior Olivia Bayer (Kodiak, Ak./Terre Haute North Vigo), sophomore Victoria Wheeler (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) and senior Amy Rowe (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) combined for a 3:49.56.

Freshman Emily Moore (LaPorte, Ind./New Prairie) posted two podium finishes on Saturday morning, finishing third in both the 50 freestyle and 200 breaststroke. Moore touched the wall in 26.17 in the sprint and 2:35.35 in the breaststroke. Moore's time in the 200 breaststoke was a season best in the event.

Fellow freshman Alexandra McCreight (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) also finished on the podium twice in the morning, placing third in both the 400 IM and 200 backstroke.
Wheeler also placed on the podium in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:31.83.

Friday night also saw the women's team set three season best times and a personal best by sophomore Wheeler in the 500 freestyle. Wheeler's time of 5:29.34 was her best of the year.
Rowe (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) set a season-best in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall in 55.93. Moore finished third in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:09.93, the best time by a female swimmer this season.

The women's 200 freestyle relay team also set a season-best time, with the combination of Rowe, Wheeler, Smith and Scott working for a time of 1:43.33.

Smith also placed on the podium two times in individual events, placing second in both the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.96 and in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.82.

The women knocked off Butler, 60-44, before falling to South Dakota State, 67-45, and St. Louis University, 80-32, Friday night. On Saturday, the Jaguars took down Butler,60-44, and dropped duals to St. Louis, 80-32, and South Dakota State, 67-45.

IUPUI will be in the pool again on Thursday, January 25, when they will host Eastern Illinois at the IU Natatorium. The action in the water begins at 6:30 p.m.
