Florida Atlantic Splits Meets
BOCA RATON, Florida, January 21. THE FAU women came away with wins over Sun Belt Conference rival Florida International and Indian River Community College, while the men fell to IRCC, 159-79.
By recording an A Standard Time of 2:12.44 in the 200-yard breaststroke at Saturday's meet, Florida Atlantic University's Ellie Weberg qualified for her third NCAA Championship. The senior earned a fourth place finish at the championships last season.
Geni Burts (Pembroke Pines, FL) picked up two individual wins for the Owls. She won the 400 IM (4:31.83) and 200 fly (2:05.98). Other individual winners were Shawna Griffith in the 1000 free (10:19.07), Lauren Shue in the 200 free (1:54.55), Jennifer Forcht in the 50 free (24.65), Lindsey Alexander in the 200 back (2:08.50) and Nicole Samilo posted a time of 5:07.79 in the 500 free to win the event.
Jonathon Pinto and Christian Baker paced the men, but saw the team fall to Indian River Community College. Pinto took first in the 200 back in 1:55.68 and Baker won the 200 breast in 2:08.34.
Next weekend the Owls head to Gainesville to take on Florida on Saturday. FAU has two regular season meets remaining before heading to the Sun Belt Championships on February 15.
