Bakersfield College Getting Back in the Swim -- January 21, 2007
BAKERSFIELD, California, January 21. DURING a time in which college programs continue to face elimination, Bakersfield College has decided to go in the other direction. The school, which hasn't fielded swimming for 16 years, announced that it will reinstate men's and women's swimming beginning in the spring of 2008.
In 2002, Bakersfield College gave the Wheeler Aquatic Center and Townsend Pool a $3 million renovation, a development that ultimately led to bringing back swimming. Charlie Pike has been hired to guide the programs, which have the luxury of having an Olympic-sized pool on campus.
