Hoff Downs Sanders National Age Group Record at NBAC Christmas Meet -- December 15, 2006

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland, December 15. ACCORDING to unofficial live results posted by North Baltimore Aquatic Club, swimming superstar Katie Hoff shattered the 200 IM 17-18 national age group short course yard record previously held by Summer Sanders since 1991. The action took place at the NBAC Christmas Invitational held from Dec. 15-17.
In other action, Dan Madwed ruled men with three open titles, while Felicia Lee put on a show in the 13-14 age group.
Women's 100 Breaststroke
Abby Meyer won the open 100 breaststroke in 1:06.48, while 15-year-old Maggie White took second in 1:07.20. Danielle Schaefer, another 15-year-old, finished third in 1:07.31.
Notably, North Baltimore's super 14-year-olds Felicia Lee (1:05.58) and Andrea Staub (1:05.81) would have finished 1-2 if not for swimming in the 13-14 age group heat.
Men's 100 Breaststroke
Joel Cross of the Coast Guard claimed the 100 breast title in 55.73, while 17-year-old Richard Hills of North Baltimore took second in 58.03. Nevin Cook closed out the top three in 58.14.
Women's 200 Freestyle
Katie Hoff began what might be a showcase meet with a dominant win in the 200 free by touching in 1:44.78. Caitlin Perks, 16, took second in 1:49.28, while Hannah Davis took third in 1:51.63. Hoff nearly set the 17-18 age group record currently held by Caroline Burckle with a 1:44.64.
In other action, 14-year-old Laura Harris clocked a 1:51.28 in the 13-14 age group heat that would have given her third in the open race.
Men's 200 Freestyle
Dan Madwed snagged the title in the 200 free by hitting the wall in 1:37.62. Josh Graham finished second in 1:42.10, while Richard Hills picked up his second medal with a third-place 1:42.39.
Women's 100 Butterfly
Courtney Kalisz won the open 100 fly in 56.04, while Laurel Brabson took second in 57.51. Meredith Cavalier turned in a third-place 57.90.
In the biggest story of the event, Felicia Lee clocked a 53.64 in the 13-14 age group championship to come close to her national age group record of 53.44.
Men's 100 Butterfly
Dan Madwed captured another title with a 49.05, while Joel Cross took second in 49.69. Meanwhile, Vlas Lezin finished third in 50.39.
Women's 200 IM
Katie Hoff obliterated Summer Sanders' 17-18 national age group record in the 200 IM with a winning time of 1:55.66. That effort eclipsed the 1:57.02 put up by Sanders in 1991. Meanwhile, Courtney Kalisz placed second in 2:05.34, while Hannah Davis took third in 2:08.70.
Felicia Lee, in the 13-14 division, posted what would have gotten her second in the open heat, with a 2:01.51. Additionally, 13-year-old Elizabeth Payton would have taken second with her 13-14 age group time of 2:04.40.
Men's 200 IM
Dan Madwed captured his third title with a time of 1:50.73, while Richard Hills earned his third medal in 1:53.19 for second. Austin Surhoff took third in 1:55.54.
