China Claims Asian Games Water Polo Title Over Japan -- December 14, 2006

DOHA, Qatar, December 14. CHINA pulled off an amazing come-from-behind 9-8 triumph over Japan in the gold-medal match at the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar on Dec. 14. Trailing 5-3 heading into the third period, China tallied five goals against Japan's three in the period before notching the winning goal on the final period.

Li Bin paced China with a hat-trick after connecting on three of his four shots, while goalie Ge Weiging registered a 52.9 percent save percentage.

Kan Aoyagi led an overall team effort with a pair of scores off four shots, while Japan's netminder Tomonaga Eguchi notched a 43.8 percent save percentage.

In the bronze-medal match-up, Kazakhstan overpowered Iran, 12-8. Ruslan Orazalinov and Ivan Zaitsev led Kazakhstan with three goals each, while Mohsen Rezvani notched a hat-trick for Iran.
