Flash! Manaudou Lowers World Record in Short Course 400 Free -- December 9, 2006
HELSINKI, Finland, December 9. FRANCE'S Laure Manaudou, who has made the 400-meter freestyle her personal playground, set a world record in the short-course version of the event Saturday at the European Championships. Manaudou clocked a time of 3:56.09, which topped her former standard of 3:56.79, set in December of last year.
Manaudou easily defeated Italy's Federica Pellegrini, who was timed in 3:59.96. Also the world-record holder in the long-course version of the 400 free, Manaudou split 56.19 at the 100, 1:55.81 at the 200 and was at 2:56.26 with 100 meters remaining. A day earlier, Manaudou won gold in the 800 free and 100 backstroke.
