Rowan Sweeps Franklin & Marshall Invites

LANCASTER, Pennsylvania, December 3. THE Rowan University men's and women's swim teams both took first place at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. The men compiled 833 points and the women had a total of 672.5 points. The two day invitational included nine men's teams and 11 women.

Saturday morning, the men took first place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.54) and the 400 medley relay (3:39.88). The free relay consisted of Andrew Donachy (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.), Stephen Tucker (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart), Dan Kelley (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Schalick) and David Shinton (jr. Newark, DE/Newark). Chris Sykes (sr. Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley Reg.), Kevin Baker (jr. Landing, NJ/Roxbury), Kevin Wallace (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape Reg.) and Nick Giacopelli (sr. sr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) made up the medley relay.

In the individual events, Sam Spracklin (fr. Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) won the 50 freestyle (21.91) and Kelley finished fourth (22.24). Baker was second (2:00.83) in the 200 individual medley followed by James Sheerin (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) third (2:01.07) and Wallace fourth (2:01.60). Donachy had a fifth place in the 500 freestyle (4:59.11).

The women had first place finishes in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.59) and the 400 medley relay (4:05.59). Janina Wojcik (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.), Alicia Mackleer (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), Christine DiRubbo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Aileen Milde (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) were on the free relay. The medley relay team was Stephanie McAllister (fr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Meghan McCourt (fr. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Wojcik and Mackleer.

Samantha King (fr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) took second in the 200 individual medley (2:13.60). In the 50 freestyle, Mackleer finished second (25.21) and DiRubbo was fourth (25.50). Carey Lafferty (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) took sixth place in the 500 freestyle (5:25.28).

Saturday evening, Rowan won the men's 200 medley relay (1:38.51) and the 800 freestyle relay (7:08.57). Baker, Mark Anthony Spagnuolo (sr. West Orange, NJ/Bloomfield), Wallace and Spracklin were on the medley relay. The free relay members were Baker, Jon Sheridan (sr. Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.), Giacopelli and Donachy.

Baker was the winner in the 400 individual medley (4:14.46) and Giacopelli took first in the 200 freestyle (1:45.43). In the 100 butterfly, Wallace had a third place (52.79) and Kelley was fifth (54.11).
Sheerin and Donachy finished third (1:47.58) and fourth (1:47.77) respectively in the 200 freestyle. Sykes was fourth in the 100 backstroke (56.52) and Spagnuolo took fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.84).

The Profs finished first in the 200 medley relay (1:53.04) with McAllister, King, Wojcik and Mackleer. The 800 freestyle relay took third (8:11.15) and the team was Ashley Gagnon (fr. S. Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy), Ayres, Milde and DiRubbo.

In the 400 individual medley, Ayres came in second (4:47.11) followed by Gagnon third (4:49.71. McCourt had a second place in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.62) while King and DiRubbo were third (1:09.81) and fourth (1:11.11) respectively. McAllister took third place in the 100 backstroke (1:01.83).

On Sunday, the men won the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.45) with Baker, Kelley, Wallace and Giacopelli. Baker took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.23), Spagnuolo was second (2:16.70) and Williams was fourth (2:17.30). In the 100 freestyle, Giacopelli was the winner (48.71), Kelley took second (48.86) and Spracklin was fourth (49.09). Sherrin had a second place in the 200 butterfly (1:58.52). Billy Swenson (so. Scotch Plains, NJ/St. Joseph) took second in the 200 backstroke (1:59.45) and Donachy was fourth (2:01.18).

Wojcik, Milde, DiRubbo and Mackleer were on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:39.72). Ayres was first in the 1650 freestyle (18:07.98) and third in the 200 butterfly (2:11.74). In the 100 freestyle, Mackleer and DiRubbo finished second (54.53) and third (54.78) respectively. King had a second place in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.56) and McCourt was fourth (2:34.56). McAllister came in third in the 200 backstroke (2:13.78)
