Washington Completes Second Day of Husky Invite

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, December 1. SOPHOMORE Kim Jasmer led the Washington swimming team on the second day of the Husky Invite, breaking her own school record with a time of 4:46.50 in the 500 freestyle. The time was fast enough for an NCAA consideration standard and eclipsed her previous record of 4:49.15.

"Kim's performance in the 500 freestyle was absolutely outstanding," said head coach Whitney Hite. "Although it is an NCAA B cut and just off an A, she will certainly be picked up in the event at NCAAs."

Other highlights for the UW women included swims by Rachel Seely, Maggie Bever and the 200 freestyle relay team.

Seely won the 50 freestyle with a time of 2:36.50, while Bever placed sixth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.12. Seely and Bever also combined with Jasmer and Lindsey Sharp to place second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:35.10.

The men were led by Ivan Perhat with an eighth place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.37. Co-captain Bret Lundgaard also performed well, placing 10th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.31. Henry Hudson also had a strong performance, placing 10th in the 500 freestyle in a lifetime best time of 4:35.99.

Perhat and Lundgaard also teamed up with Yonatan Cohen and Jared Osborne to place third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.92.

"Overall, it was a pretty exciting night of swimming," said Hite. "I'm pretty excited about the first 10 weeks of my career here and I couldn't be more excited about breaking a school record already."

Hite was also pleased with UW signee Ashley Daly (Issaquah Swim Club), who placed 23rd in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:05.40.
