Mutual of Omaha Invite Starts Up

OMAHA, Nebraska, December 1. THE Maverick swimming and diving team won seven events, including six individual titles on its way to a 121 point lead after day one at the 2006 Mutual of Omaha Invite.

The Mavericks were led in the water by junior Jessica Hessel and sophomore Lindsey Kline who each posted two individual victories during the final session.

Kline posted victories at the 1650 yard free event(18:03.82) and posted a B-cut time in her victory at the 200 yard free event(1:54.79). Hessel posted a A-cut time at the 50 yard free event (24.07) and B-cut in her victory in the 100 yard butterfly.

Sophomore Carrie Murphy posted a B-cut time in her victory at the 100 yard breaststroke event(1:07.15), while fellow sophomore Janel Lawonn took home the title at the 1 Meter diving event(239.50).

The 200 yard relay team also earned an A-cut time during its victory at the 200 yard free relay event to kick off the Friday night final session.

On the men's side, UNO swim club member Zac Samland also took home two individual titles in the 100 yard butterfly (51.70)and the 200 yard free event(142.49). Samland earned B-cut times in both events.

The University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse holds a 79-point lead over Colorado Mines heading into Saturday's events.
