Toledo Rockets Past Bowling Green, 149-93

TOLEDO, Ohio, October 27. THE University of Toledo swimming and diving team started another successful weekend beating rival Bowling Green 149-93 in the first meet of the MAC season.

Having a big day for the Rockets was junior diver Megan McKinley. With one of her dives she met a NCAA Zone qualifying mark. McKinley won both the one and the three meter diving. Fellow diver Jill Reighard placed second in both events.

"I am really proud of our divers today," said Head Coach Lars Jorgensen. "They both performed excellent today."

Coming from behind in the 500 freestyle to pull out a one second victory was Sara Stech touching the wall with a time of 5:06.07. "Sara had a great race in the 500, she really swam strong," said Jorgensen.

Also pulling out victories for UT were Leah Woodard in the 50 freestyle (24.24), Mackenzie Manard in the 100 butterfly (58.39), Brie Henning in the 100 freestyle (52.36) and Kylie Gamelier in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.61).

In the relays the Rockets took first and third. In the 200 medley relay the team of Shannon Hazelton, Kylie Gamelier, Makenzie Manard and Liz Hinkleman (1:48.25) took first and the team of Cara Frohman, Amanda Breen, Lindsay Tubbs and Brittany Dominique (1:52.44) took third. In the final event of the night the 400 freestyle relay taking first was Brittany Dominique, Liz Hinkleman, Ashley Cusack and Brie Henning (3:35.35) scored 11 for the Rockets, while Catlin Cormack, Sara Stech, Courtney Curry and Katie Childers (3:47.39) scored three.

"I am very pleased with how well the team did today, however we need to rest and get ready for a very tough meet against Ohio tomorrow," said Jorgensen.
