UNLV Adds John Brooks as Assistant Coach

LAS VEGAS, Nevada, September 27. JOHN Brooks has been named assistant swimming coach for the men’s and women’s teams at UNLV as announced Wednesday. Brooks replaces Paul Davidson, who left UNLV in July to take a position at the University of Southern California.

“We are excited with the addition of John and the experience he brings with him to the Rebel swimming program,” said head coach Jim Reitz.

Brooks comes to UNLV after spending the past season as a volunteer coach at his alma mater, the University of Utah, where he coached the sprint and stroke groups. With Brooks on the staff, the Ute women’s squad won the Mountain West regular season and championship meet trophies, while the men’s team placed 23rd at the NCAA Championships.

Prior to his coaching position at Utah, Brooks was the head girl’s and boy’s swimming coach at East High School in Utah from 2001-04. Twice named the state high school coach of the year (2002 and 2004), he guided the team to state championships in 2003 and 2004 and a runner-up finish in 2002. Brooks also coached a total of 10 All-Americans, four state swimmers of the year, and nine swimmers went on to earn Division I scholarships.

A 2003 graduate from Utah with a bachelor of arts degree in economics, Brooks lettered one year for the Ute men’s team and competed at the MWC championships
