Welker Named USMS Coach of the Year

NAPERVILLE, Illinois, September 25. SUE Welker, head coach of the Naperville Waves Masters team in Illinois has been named the 2006 USMS Coach of the Year. Welker received her award at the United States Masters Swimming convention in Dearborn, Mich.

Welker has been the head coach of the Naperville Waves since its inception in 1999. The club holds the majority of its practices at the Edward Health and Fitness Centers in Naperville and Woodridge. Many of its 165 members compete in meets and open water competitions throughout the year.

“I am so blown away and so honored to be receiving this award,” Welker said. “There are so many Masters coaches throughout the country that run outstanding adult swim programs. The fact that USMS has singled out our program is so gratifying and is a testament to our coaches, our swimmers and the support that we have had from Edward [Health and Fitness Center].”

“To be selected from this group applauds character, dedication, and sacrifices that this achievement means,” USMS Coaches Chair Skip Thompson said. “All of the swimmers from the Naperville Waves, Illinois LMSC, and USMS should be proud of Sue Welker as the 2006 USMS Coach of the Year.”
