BELGRADE, Serbia, September 11. SERBIA won the men’s European Water Polo Championships on Sunday with a 9-8 triumph over Hungary in front of a vastly partisan crowd.
Vladimir Vujasinovic helped the Serbians to victory with a trio of goals to lead all scorers in the gold-medal match. Meanwhile, Denes Varga paced the Hungarians with a pair of goals in the loss.
The bronze-medal tilt proved to be all Spain as the Spaniards dominated Romania, 10-4, for third-place in the epic tournament. Felipe Perrone led Spain with three goals in the thrashing, while only George Georgescu and Edward Dina Andrei scored (two each) to account for Romania’s four points.
