Tampa Bay Community Wins Combined Team Award at Juniors

PHOENIX, Ariz., Aug. 14. TAMPA Bay Community Aquatics proved to be the most well-rounded and deep team at the 2006 Speedo USA Swimming Junior Nationals Championships in Irvine, Calif., last week as it claimed the combined team championship with 308 points. Overall, Tampa Bay placed third on the women’s side (197) and tied for ninth on the men’s side (111) to win the title.

Meanwhile, Arizona Desert Fox parlayed a women’s team crown (256) to nearly win the combined title with a 295-point tally. Additionally, Irvine Novaquatics (293) finished third in front of a home crowd based on a men’s team title (264).

Lakeside Swim Team (261) took fourth and the Dallas Mustangs (217) rounded out the top five.

As for the individual high-pointers, Swim Pasadena’s Samantha Vanden Berge far surpassed the rest of the women with 92 points. The closest competitors (Kerr-McGee’s Samantha Woodward and Arizona Desert Fox’s Katherine Raatz) tied for second with 70 points.

On the men’s side, Fast Swim Team’s Tyler Clary also dominated with 86 points. Cincinnati Marlin David Mosko and Dallas Mustang Matthew Thompson tied for second with 76 points.
