USC’s Michal Chmielewski, Brooke Schaffer of UCLA Earn Pac-12 Honors

USC’s Michal Chmielewski and UCLA’s Brooke Schaffer were named the male and female Pac-12 Swimmer of the Week on Wednesday.

Their teammates – Laurent Gosselin-Paradis and Lauren Hallaselka – won the top diving honors.

Schaffer helped UCLA beat Utah in a dual meet. She won the 100 freestyle in 50.36 seconds and the 200 free in 1:50.11. The graduate student also anchored the Bruins’ winning 400 medley relay in 49.90 seconds.

Chmielewski, a freshman from Poland, helped USC handle UC San Diego in a dual meet. He won the 100 butterfly in 48.41 seconds, the 100 backstroke in 48.52 and the 1,000 freestyle in 9:28.73. He showed his range by splitting 21.48 off the end of the Trojans’ winning 200 medley relay.

Hallaselka tallied a season-best six-dive score of 365.10 points on 3-meter. The freshman from Finland ended up with a finals score of 675.30 to win the UCLA Invitational. She finished fifth on 1-meter with a score of 562.65 and helped the Bruins win the event.

Gosselin-Paradis won the 3-meter event at the UCLA Invitational with a score of 734.65 points. He also helped the Trojans win the team diving event. The sophomore from Canada finished third on platform (744.05 points) and fifth on 1-meter (646.15).
