USA Swimming, the national governing body (NGB) for the sport of swimming in the United States, today announced its 12-person roster for the 2024 World Aquatics Open Water Junior Championships, which take place September 6-8 in Alghero, Italy.

“This will be a great opportunity for these young athletes to represent the U.S. and gain valuable racing experience on the international stage,” said USA Swimming National Team Open Water Director, Bryce Elser. “These athletes had stellar showings at Open Water National Championships earlier this month, and they’ll be great representatives of both their club and USA Swimming during their time in Italy.”

The decorated Sandpipers of Nevada group is represented by four athletes on this year’s roster: Luke Ellis (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada), Gabriel Manteufel (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada), Sianna Savarda (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada), and Claire Weinstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada). Saint Petersburg Aquatics is also represented well with Cobe Hehenberger (Saint Petersburg, Fla./Saint Petersburg Aquatics) and Brinkleigh Hansen (Saint Petersburg, Fla./Saint Petersburg Aquatics).

Nine of the 12 American swimmers will be representing the U.S. for the first time in their careers. Ellis, Weinstein, and Claire Stuhlmacher (Henrico, Va./NOVA of Virginia Aquatics, Inc.) were all members of the U.S. roster at the last World Aquatics (formerly FINA) Open Water Junior Championships, which took place in Seychelles in 2022. The best finish of the trio was Weinstein’s gold medal in the 5K.
