UCLA Hires Virginia’s Wesley Foltz as Assistant Coach

UCLA on Friday announced the hiring of Wesley Foltz as an assistant coach to the staff of head coach Jordan Wolfrum.

Foltz was last at the University of Virginia, part of the women’s NCAA championship teams in 2021 and 2022. He also coached with Cavalier Aquatics and spent five years in Charlottesville.

“We are thrilled to add Wes to our staff,” Wolfrum in a university statement. “Wes stood out in our search with his passion for greatness and commitment to elite swimming. With a strong history of developing great athletes and building elite teams, Wes is an exciting addition to our pool deck. Our team can’t wait to welcome Wes and his family to Westwood.”

Foltz helped the Cavaliers finish in the top 10 at NCAAs all four years he was there, around the cancelled 2020 meet. The sprint specialist also helped the men finish sixth three times, including sixth in 2022. The Virginia staff was named ACC Women’s Coaching Staff of the year in 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022. Foltz focused on sprinting and on recruitment for the Cavaliers.

Foltz coached at NC State in 2016-17, a year in which the men finished fourth at NCAAs and the women were seventh. They swept the men’s and women’s ACC Coaching Staff of the Year award that season. H had begun his coaching career as a volunteer assistant for the Wolfpack from 2012-14.

Foltz’s first full-time coaching stint was at USC from 2014-16. The Trojans won a pair of women’s Pac-12 titles and three NCAA relay titles in Foltz’s tenure. He has also coached in the club realm with Wolfpack Team Elite, Trojan Swim Club and Marlins of Raleigh.

A native of Chapel Hill, N.C., Foltz swam at Towson University, where he was the team’s rookie of the year in 2009 and earned the Unsung Hero Award in 2010.
