The women’s 200 IM has been considered one of the strongest events of the meet, with world champion Alex Walsh leading the way. Walsh has already been the runnerup in the 400 IM this week in Indy. Leah Hayes, the teenager who won bronze in the 200 IM at Worlds last year, will race in another circle-seeded heat alongside Kate Douglass, the Olympic bronze medalist and fastest swimmer ever in the 200-yard IM. Regan Smith is seeded second in the event, but she is expected to skip the race after qualifying for Worlds in three other races.

It has been a tough week for Shaine Casas, but he has one last chance to get onto the team in the 200 IM, where he is the top seed. Carson Foster and Chase Kalisz will swim in lane four in the other circle-seeded heats, with Destin Lasco, one of the week’s breakout performers, swimming next to Foster.

Expect an exciting race in the women’s 50 free, where Erika Brown is the top seed and joined by Claire Curzan in the final heat. Neither has qualified for Fukuoka yet. Douglass and Torri Huske race in the first circle-seeded heat, followed by Abbey Weitzeil and Gretchen Walsh.

The men’s 50 free top seed is Caeleb Dressel. He has improved with each swim this week, and the 50 is his last chance to get onto the Worlds team in his comeback meet. Michael Andrew is the second seed, with David CurtissMatt KingRyan HeldBrooks Curry and Jack Alexy all in contention.
