Qin Haiyang of China has been on fire throughout the 2017 FINA World Championships, downing World Junior Records (WJR) almost every time he dives into the water.

After lowering the WJR in the 200 IM in both prelims and semi-finals, Haiyang has landed at a 1:57.06 record in finals. His time earned him sixth overall and moved him swiftly through personal bests.

Comparative splits:

  • Qin (2017 – f): 25.21, 30.58, 33.14, 28.13 = 1:57.06
  • Qin (2017 – sf): 25.29, 30.49, 33.65, 28.38 = 1:57.81
  • Qin (2017 – h): 25.52, 31.19, 33.81, 28.49 = 1:59.01

Looking through his splits, Qin continued to work all aspects of his race taking out the race faster each time, as well as coming back faster each time.

Before Haiyang got his hands on the record it belonged to American Michael Andrew at a 1:59.12.
