Teen Star Lorenzo Galossi Unleashes Final-50 Blast For 1:47.42 Italian Junior Record In 200 Free

Lorenzo Galossi followed up his 7:46.28 scorcher in the 800 free with a national junior record of 1:47.42 in the 200 at the Italian Summer Championships.

The 16-year-old has cut a swathe through junior waters these past few weeks with 400 and 800 gold and 200 silver behind David Popovici at the European Junior Championships in Bucharest.

On Thursday, he came from sixth at the final turn to come home in 27.49 and share second with Filippo Megli, the pair behind Stefano di Cola who stopped the clock at 1:46.82.

That sliced 0.29 off the junior standard of 1:47.71 Galossi swam behind Popovici in Romania.

Splits: 24.98/52.41 (27.43)/1:19.93 (27.52)/1:47.72 (27.49)

Thomas Ceccon, the 100 back world record holder, had led the way at 150 before finishing seventh in 1:48.95.

Luca de Tullio added 1500 gold to his 800 silver behind Galossi in 15:03.32, the 18-year-old ahead for all but 100m of the race to win by 12.42secs from Fabio Dalu (15.15.74).

Silvia di Pietro was 0.13 off her Italian 50 free record of 24.84 dating from 2014 as she stopped the clock at 24.97, the only woman inside 25secs.

Italian record holder Francesca Fangio led throughout to win the women’s 200br in 2:24.71 ahead of two-time Olympian Martina Carraro (2:25.56).

Luca Pizzini was the clear winner of the men’s race in 2:10.54.

Federica Toma came home in 32.56 to overhaul Margherita Panziera on the final 50 and win the 200 back in 2:09.76, a day after taking the 100 back title.

Panziera touched in 2:09.99.

The Cesarano twins occupied the top-two slots in the women’s 400 free, Antonietta leading home sisterr Noemi in 4:09.52 to 4:10.47.

Lorenzo Mora came from third at halfway to take the men’s 200 back title in 1:57.35, Lorenzo Gargani took the men’s 50 fly in 23.38 and PierAndrea Matteazzi clinched the IM double with a 2:00.62 win in the short medley.

Ilaria Cusinato led throughout to take the women’s 200 fly title in 2:10.14 with Antonella Crispino moving from third at the final turn to take second in 2:10.30 while Sara Franceschi completed the IM double with 2:13.32 in the 200.
