Stanford’s Multiple Event Wins Not Enough To Combat USC’s Depth On Day 3

If you didn’t watch this swim live, you should go back and watch it on the replay. Stanford’s Ella Eastin absolutely crushed the field–her 3:59.30 left everyone else in the dust on her way to her second individual win of the meet. California senior Kelly Naze was a distant second with a 4:06.56 and her junior teammate Celina Li took third with a 4:08.56.

100 Butterfly

California’s Farida Osman did it again tonight with a quick 50.53–the only woman in the field to go sub-51. USC senior Kendyl Stewart was second with a 51.17, ahead of California sophomore Noemie Thomas, who was in for a 51.40.

200 Freestyle

Stanford junior Lia Neal nabbed her first individual title of the meet with a convincing win in the 200 free. Her 1:42.50 was almost two seconds ahead of USC’s freshman Kirsten Vose (1:44.19). California’s senior Liz Pelton secured a third place finish with a 1:44.59 to round off the podium.

Stanford added another individual win to its collection with senior Sarah Haase’s win in the 100 breast. her 58.02 was over a second ahead of USC freshman Riley Scott, who was easily second with a 59.31, another second ahead of Arizona’s senior Emma Schoettmer (1:00.32).

100 Backstroke

It was a close race in the 100 back. Stanford grabbed another individual title for the tally, though, with sophomore Ally Howe‘s 50.71. California answered back with senior Rachel Bootsma and freshman Amy Bilquist taking second and third with 50.76 and 50.81, respectively. These were the only three women under 51 in the field.

400 Medley Relay

Stanford took one more win of the night in the 400 medley relay with a 3:26.25, about four seconds ahead of second place California (3:30.17) and a New American record, Stanford’s second of the meet. California just edged out USC, who took third with a 3:30.31.
