SMU Men’s Swimming & Diving Takes Down Missouri State
The 25th-ranked SMU men’s swimming and diving team defeated Missouri State, 182-118, on Saturday at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium. With the win, the Mustangs move to 3-1 in dual action this season.
Connor Dalbo won three events to lead the Mustangs, earning victories in the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes as well as the 200-yard individual medley.
The 100 breast saw a sweep for SMU as Dalbo’s 54.70 led Caleb Rhodenbaugh (54.95) and Brayden Rudd (55.65) in the event. In the 200, Dalbo (1:58.17) and Rhodenbaugh (1:58.48) led the field again, with Dalbo continuing to stay under the NCAA’s B standard.
Dalbo paced the field in the first of two IMs on the day, covering the distance in 1:49.38. John Culver was third at 1:52.13. In the 400 IM, Colin Feehery was victorious with a time of 3:53.07.
Feehery (1:38.41) also won the 200-yard freestyle with Wyatt Cronk (1:38.78) and Cole Parnell (1:38.94) coming in to complete the sweep.
Justin Baker and Daniel led sweeps of the sprint freestyle events, with Baker (20.26) winning the 50 and Forndal (44.36) winning the 100. Lance Butler was the runner-up in both events, while Charlie Kaye was third in the 50 and Cole Parnell was third in the 100.
SMU also picked up wins from Tyler Barfield (200 back) and Jack Easton (100 fly). In the 200 fly, Barfield had an impressive showing for second place, turning in a career-best 1:50.81.
Mustang divers swept 3-meter action behind a career-best 381.30 from Parker Hardigree. Peter Smithson (360.38) and Dominic Hoefer (360.00) rounded out the top three with Smithson’s score coming in as a season best.
On 1 meter, both Smithson (378.98) and Hardigree (354.98) had career performances and posted NCAA A scores to lead SMU with a 1-2 finish.
SMU won both relays at the event as Easton, Rhodenbaugh, Riley Hill and Butler took the opening 200-yard medley relay in 1:29.01, and Parnell, Forndal, Kaye and Butler finished in 2:58.31 for the win in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
