Sarah Sjostrom made history last summer at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games when she became the first Swede to earn an Olympic gold medal for swimming. Recently, the 23-year-old was honored by the Swedish King Carl SVI Gustaf alongside fellow Rio gold medalist Jenny Rissveds, who took home gold in the women’s cross country cycling event.

Sjostrom continued to etch her name in history last summer when she further lowered the world record in the 100 LCM fly for the third time in just over a year. She also took home a silver and bronze medal in the 200 and 100 free, respectively. With the specific medals she earned, Sjostrom became the second woman and fifth swimmer in history to medal in both the 100 and 200 free, along with the 100 fly at a single Olympic Games or World Championships.
